Coolwater Gardens, on half an acre, are quite unlike any other gardens that you may see. The West Garden is planted on top of Red Sandstone pavement (no lawns or borders) and incorporates woodland areas, a limestone dolmen, large circular alpine troughs, Japanese maple bed, a coombe, juniper escarpment, ponds, etc. Connecting to the Water Garden are a large number of troughs built up into various mini landscapes and planted with choice alpines. The tropical-looking Water Garden is encircled by bamboo groves, palms, a covered arid bed with agaves somehow managing to look perfectly natural alongside the water, a fern dell and another woodland section. The waterside patios have more troughs, a few with alpines planted directly into Tufa.
