I want to move a large clump of helleborus, the Lenten rose, which is currently in bloom. I am getting conflicting information on when best to do this.Could you advise please?
I was wondering what would be a suitable plant for my Kitchen. I'm thinking of the fumes etc that are generated in a normal kitchen and the effect these might have on a plant. The window is westnorthwest facing so only gets sun in late afternoon/evening. Temperature fluctuates between 12C and 20C but very rarely goes below 12C.
When I was younger the seasons were defined as for example Nov, Dec & Jan. were winter. But I think that has now all changed, at least from a gardening point of view. You often see references to "early spring" or "mid spring" or "late spring" etc. I would consider March to be early spring and May as late spring. I was wondering what your thoughts are on this?
I want to store my Dahlia tubers, which have been growing in the herbaceous borders, indoors over winter in pots. I read that they should be placed in Peat or sand but I'm wondering if I could use Multipurpose Compost instead? My long term plan is to put them back out in a coldframe in March/April before planting back out in the borders as young plants in late May/early June.
Here in Kildare my Dahlias and Rudbeckias are still flowering away abundantly. I'm just wondering when I should cut them down and take them undercover given how mild it has been this Autumn.
