Our Hebe Heartbreaker is in a border and has always been beautiful. However this spring it looks leggy and unattracrtive., Could it have died in the harsh winter; can I cut it right back?
Our potted Phormium is looking sad and brown, possibly as a result of a very hard winter. I'm sure its pot is large enough. Should I cut it right down, or prune the brown leaves (most of them are brown), or do you think it might have died?
Our newly erected greenhouse is flooding during the recent heavy and prolonged rains. Not coming in from above, but seeping up from soil.My husband dug out the base earth, layed a layer of 20mm gravel and filled in with good topsoil, but today we find it is flooded again. Greenhouse is mounted on sleepers, with soil inside and slabs making a pathway up the middle. What can we do. I haven't started growing anything in the greenhouse as yet.
We have a large and very old rhododendron and want to remove it and put a greenhouse on the site. We understand that the roots are probably very deep and far-reaching, but a professional gardener friend has said that if we get out as much of the root as possible and then check regularly all around the greenhouse for re-growth it will not be a problem to zap the growth with Roundup or similar. The person who is going to do the work says he will grind out as much of the stump as he can. Should we lay the greenhouse on concrete (not recommended by another gardener friend) or railway sleepers (recommended), and can we expect the Rhododendron roots to eventually lift the greenhouse off its moorings!
Our plant leaves have suddenly turned black and wilted. Looks dead, in fact. Other winters it has kept bright and green. Should I do anything with it now, or wait until spring and prune it hard and see if it comes back again? It's a long-established plant.
