I planted 'Cape Gooseberry - Little Lantern' Gooseberries for the first time and they appear to be doing well since I planted them out in 16'' pots some time ago. They are meant to have an orange berry but all I'm seeing so far is a green flowery casing that houses a smaller green goosberry inside. The problem is that the flowering casing isn't falling away exposing the berry, and sometimes the flowery casing is falling to the ground with the berry inside. My understanding was that I would have a plant that would have many orange berries ripe for picking? What am I doing wrong?
My Brussel sprouts are still quite small and on a few plants, the sprouts are only half formed. Will they still grow at this time of year? Can I still leave them in the ground in the hope that they will increase in size?
I tend to get gardening type presents for birthdays, fathers day, etc etc which include plant nutrients such as fish meal & bone mixes. Do these things have an expiry date (as I seem to accumulate of lot of boxes of different types of veg supplements?)
For the first time ever, I have had catterpillars in my glasshouse (I assume butterflies made their way in and laid eggs although I saw none??) I have noticed a lot of small groupings of little green and/or black pellets on my tomato plant leaves and window frames of the glasshouse...are these the droppings of the caterpillars?
I'm very pleaaed with my rhubarb as it's been very plentiful this year. I am now wondering when I should stop pulling it?
I planted 2nd earlies (Maris Peer) in late Feb and early Mar 2011 into approx 14 tubs (2/3 plants in each tub). Most of the plants are still in flower but there 5/6 of them looking half withered and dying? The normally dark green leaf is now a very light green with brown spots. Am I in trouble? If so, are they all infected?
