Why do potato seeds go soft? Is there anything I could have done to stop them going soft? Planted them at the end of April, will they be ok?

what is my choice of evergreen climbers? I know there is ivy, cissus, evergreen clematis and an evergreen hydrandea. have I any other choices? Also some climber for a north facing wall

Can you please help. I have dark algae on gravel and can get rid of it. Swells up in wet conditions. qite slippery. tried weedkiller, mosskiller, lawn sand, and mogathon- No good. Have tried picking it up but very slow process. any suggestions?
