My Endive, and my Chard have bolted fiercely, and my lettuce also, recently. Have they been too dry?
For years now, I'm growing dwarf french beans. Most of the time, the first ones that I pick are OK, but after that the beans start to curl and twist and become unsuitable for eating. Why, and what to do?
It is said that stable manure is principally a soil improver. Also that it is a fertilizer. For cabbages its is recommended not to fertilize their beds. So, what is it with stable manure, and should I or should I not apply it to cabbage beds?
One can read it everywhere : When to prune shrub X and when to prune Y, but reasons why are not given. Apart from that I will have less blossom/fruit next year, what harm would it do to a shrub when I prune it at another time of the year then is recommended? Thanks. Fons
With the warm weather, these little red creatures, that race over hot surfaces like concrete window cills and more annoyingly garden table tops and leave behind an impressive red marking when rubbed dead, are alive and well again, in droves. I think they are not red spider mite. They might be lice (at least six legs, nrs 7 and 8 probably antennae). (I have searched the Net throught all corners, but couldn't find anything. Do you know, what are they, how to fight them?
One of my two apple trees (Elstar) has only a few flowers this year, while the neighbouring Discovery is fully blossoming. I gave both them some potash in Nov. and in March, and both also some stable manure. What went wrong?
