I was given a cooking apple tree which had its main trunk broken in the garden centre...it's always fruited v well but i would like to raise its canopy up...can i cut off the bottom branches now in july even though they have fruit or should i let them ripen, harvest them and do it later in the year?
a quick follow-up to the q on a lilac i recently posted....do you recommend that i do lift it? also if i were to plant sometthing else in the same place is that ok, maybe an acer
This lilac started to leaf as normal earlier this year but then i noticed that half of it seemed to suffer from curled up brown leaves. then recently i noticed that all its leaves seem to have followed suit. i knicked the bark and part of it is green particularly near the main trunk but towards the end of the small branches it is brown. should i leave it or can i do anything to help it?
a large branch was broken off an acer during the recent heavy winds. it has left a gaping wound on the main trunk. is there anything i can do or should i just leave it? the broken branch can be seen to the left of the tree in the photo
I had a bed of potatoes last year and only recently noticed that there are some fresh potato sprouts in the same bed this year - can they be left or should i get rid of them? they're obviously growing from potatoes that were left in the ground last year. i had planned on growing cabbage in that bed this year
can i cut back clematis tangutica now in august as it is smothering some other plants like this thuja smaragd in the photo..or will i just wait till spring...i've just hoisted it back to expose the other plants
