We are trying to grow cucumbers for the first time. It is presently in a pot -but will need support soon!! Is it warm enough to grow cucumbers outside here. Our veg plot is raised - at a sunny wall and fairly well sheltered. No greenhouse- would have to be inside if not.

I'm using a good quality John Innes for growing veggies and it's very successful this year. Can I reuse this compost next year if I remove roots and add some nutrients. If so what fertilizer would you suggest I go for and how much per sq ft.

I have a Cherry tree in the back garden, approx 30 years old, its leaves are smaller than normal and sickly looking, it usually has large leaves and heathier. There is damage at the back of the tree where the bark is falling off, there is woodlice in this area and what looks like woodworm holes. Some of the smaller branches are also dying off. In the past year we have had major building done with ground disturbance around the treee and affecting some roots. This tree has sentimental value can it be saved

My question, i planted about 40 horse chestnut trees (10 years old) in October 2007, they thrived last year and had beautiful flowers early this year but since the hot spell the leaves are browning and appear to be dying. I'm now watering them but there does not seem to be any revival? will I fertilize the water? was it the sudden heat that caused this? will this set back my trees or worse? also my lime trees leaves are suffering but the ash and willow's are grand. My site is over 6 acres so they've loads of room and there are plenty of other trees around/in area.
