I have built a container 8'x10"x10" to hang on south facing wall in my yard which is the sunniest part of my yard but is shaded from 3pm. I have been advised not to drill holes for drainage in the wood as it would weaken the structure. Really it is a large hanging basketWhat drainage would you suggest - gravel/plastic sheeting any use? Thank you!

I have recently taken soft wood cuttings. The procedure I took to plant them was as follows: I dipped them in hormone rooting powder then put them in a pot of compost.I then added water to firm.I then covered the pot with clear polythene bag and sealed with a elastic band.My question is: Should I water the cuttings every day or leave the pot alone sealed in the polythene bag?

We moved into our house 5 years ago, there are 2 large probably 60-70 foot scots pines at the bottom of our back garden, although I like the trees they are blocking a lot of the sunshine from getting into our garden(west/south facing), we would like to get the trees topped. We have contacted 3 tree surgeons all gave us conflicting advice, firstly dont top as the trees will die, secondly that you cannot top until autumn as the sap levels are too high in the trees and thirdly the trees can be topped now with no side effects, which of these is correct?

I have 2 coronet apple trees. They were fine until about 2/3 weeks ago. They had brown/black spots on leaves which then developed into the the leaf becoming almost scorched or burned looking and crumbles away. They have been kept well watered and were fed potash some time back. One of them has no fruit developing now, the other still has a couple, any ideas what I should do?
