Gerry,I recently wrote to you regarding my Angels trumphets which were pot bound. My now question is, as you mentioned, although pot bound, if cut back and protected from frost, they will last nexst year if planted into the ground. How do I cut them back, i.e. where and how far back? Also, as they are potted, would it be ok to leave potted and in my green house until spring, once prunned? Thanks Darren

I have over 20 cone shaped/ pyramid shaped conifers ? arborvitae holmstrup or emerald. They are about 6 ft in height and were planted over 6 years ago.In the last few weeks brown patches have appeared at the bottom of the trees and has spread throughout 2/3 of the trees. While on other trees areas at the bottom of the tree have turned black in colour as if they were burnt .Could you please tell me what has caused this and what i can do to treat it . Thanking you.

I am desperate for help. I bought a buxus last summer to place just out side my front door. Since the beginning of this summer I noticed the leaves aroud the bottom area turning yellow, brown and eventually falling off. I repotted the plant and noticed that not all the roots had been covered by the soil in the pot as they weren't packed correctly. The bare area at the bottom is now creeping its way up and it's taking over the plant. The leaves at the top are now turning brown too. Is it a mite infection or am I not watering it enough? The soil is wet to the touch but not over sodden. It is placed in a sheltered area which gets a reasonable amount of sun.

Can truffles be found under trees in Ireland. I have found knobbly strange scented items in the soil under my trees - could they be truffles and if so can are they edible?
