What can I safely plant over a septic tank percolation zone (approx 40x25 metres) without interfering with its function? The area is unshaded, exposed to all winds and naturally low lying, always damp and sometimes boggy. There is no opportunity for additional drainage, nor resiting the tank or soakaway. Thankfully the installation works well inspite of its situation! The "garden" of my new-build home is still an exposed, one acre field on the Ards peninsula, one and a half miles from the Irish Sea to the east and Strangford Lough to the west.

Gerry,We grow our own fruit -plums, apples and damsuns. We have made delicious rum pot and damsun wine in the past. We are keen to make cider and would like to purchase an apple press. However, we do not know where one can buy these in ireland or are there course available on winemaking. Any information provided would be gratefully recieved. Thanks a million Mary Flood

Hi, I am helping with the gardening at my son's school. They have a number of flower beds for the children to plant in and we want them to see their plants flower before the end of the school year, ie June 30th. Some beds will be used for spring bulbs and some for vegetables. There are a couple of brilliant sun flower beds too. We are currently tidying up all the beds and thinking about planning for next year, can you recommend some annuals and perennials please that will usually be flowering in early June so that the children get to enjoy them? And ones most likely to appeal to children - that are also easy enough to grow?! Many thanks in advance.
