Hi Gerry, I have two bay trees in pots in the garden. About 5 ft tall and have them for 4 years. In the last week one of them is completly covered in small black flies (1-2cm long), nothing on the other tree. They seem to be eating the centre / side of some leaves. The other tree has no flies but some leaves are yellowed, curled and stuck together with sort of cobweb in the centre when pulled apart. I'm totally confused between psyllids, suckers etc so not sure if I just spray them or need to remove all damaged leaves and then spray? Many thanks

After building an extension onto our house our front garden needs a complete redo. What would you suggest as low maintenance plants that look good all year around. We plan to put in a decent sized flower bed and a roll out lawn. We would need something that would screen a wall about 4.5 feet high at the back of the flowerbed and then various heights and colours. Also our backgarden is completely paved and would appreciate any suggestions as to what would look good all year round. Many thanks for your help.Marion Cusack

We have recently removed old brick planters and now have a blank canvas at the front of our house. We have an old cement sidewalk that goes around the side of the house that we need to cover up or redue. I am wonderng about a low wooden walkway and deck. Is it okay to have a deck at the front of the house as long as there are plants blocking the view from the street?Or would another type of walkway and patio be better. Thank you

I'm establishing a laurel hedge from small plants. They have grown approx 6 foot in 4 yrs but are "leggy" at the bottom. How should I prune them? e.g. cut back to 2 foot high or just trim lower side branches? thanks, Conor
