My garden is in Kilmuckridge on an evelated, exposed site about a mile from the beach. The garden is about half an acre. There are several levels to the garden.I planted conifers around the perimeter about 10 years ago. They havea nice conical shape Unfortunately, they are dyingone by one. I understand that salt and wind maybe the problem. The soil is marl and sandly. I havesprayed with feed constanly throughout the growingseason but alas they are still dying. Can you suggest a replacement conifer hardy enough to take the wind salt and poor soil? Many thanks 200420091

To the side of our front garden, we have a steep Bank sloping, (25 mtrs. in length & about 2 mtrs drop) into our garden from the adjoining property. We have had to put drainage to prevent heavy rainfall turning the area into near like waterfall conditions.many thanksCan you advise? 91We have planted 4 pampas grasses and 6 phormiums. The soil is sandy. We intend to mulch this area with pebbles but would like to plant some suitable shrubs to add interest and colour to compliment what we have. Any suggestions.

Can you help? We planted a hedge/shelter belt over 10 yearsago using the above. The Privet has been successful but is very slow growing and is now about 2 mtrs high. I would like to trim same and maintain it at this height. is this possible? Can I take cuttings & how do I propogate them? The conifers 'wilma' are very attractive but have died off graduallyone by one. As the conifers died I replaced them with the same variety only for these to die off as well. At this point I have hugh gaps in the hedge/shelter belt. Can you suggest what I could plant to replace the conifer 'wilma' that would bemore vigourous than privet and able to withstand the high winds & salt?
