Golden privet hedge dying

I have a hedge of golden privet that was planted about 7/8 years ago. This past year about 3 or 4 of the plants have died, I notice some more starting to die. I had a lovely hedge around the garden but now there are gaps where the plants have died. Any idea what's causing this?
