I burn only dry timber in my fire (no coal). I was wondering what to do with ashes? Is it too early to spread around fruit bushes? Should I keep it to spread later on in the summer around bushes or could it be put in the compost heap? Or do the ashes have any great value at all?

Had tomato seedlings in plastic 3 tier greenhose for few days. Planned to pot on this weekend. Unfortunately i never took the plastic cover off the propagator and today (wednesday) when i checked them they had wilted badly after fine weather. Some actually had cracked stems. Should i start again or could they recover?

My wife recently purchased bulbs - mirabilis and hemerocallis were 2 among them. When researching what soil, shade, etc. they like I found that they may be problematic. One website advised washing your hands after coming in contact with mirabilis. Another advised that the seeds of hemerocallis were highly toxic. As we have young children I wonder could you shed any light on this issue?
