Very old apple tree (100 + yrs old) was pruned too hard to allow light to house, 3 parts of trunk cut straight across leaving main trunk and 3 stumps. It sprouted briefly afterwards but this year it seems totally dead. Twigs are dry and brown. Is there any way to save the tree? Was thinking of digging around base and applying some fertilizer/mulch to encourage growth.
Leaves fallen off but some on inside near a wall are still undamaged. It's on a north west corner of a bed and protected from east side by the house. East Galway location. Will the shrub come back following frost damage? It's a lovely colour and 3 of them grow together. I would hate to have to dig out and it's 8 years old now.
Paul's Scarlett Hawthorn has not flowered and has now lost its leaves. Never looked particularly healthy. In good soil but a bit exposed to wind. I notice the bark has peeled exposing the centre of the trunk- maybe due to damage.
