When raking up some leaves today I came to a pile of sycamore leaves. Most of these have black spots on them. My question is: Is it ok to add them to my leaf compost heap? Or is this a fungus that will infect plants where the leaf-mould is used?
I intend to plant a new shrub border in an area that has not been previously cultivated. I have sprayed the grass etc with weed killer and that is now brown. Can I avoid digging by covering the area with a thick layer of farmyard manure and leaving over the winter before planting in spring? Or can you suggest any other method that does not involve digging?
Can you please tell me when is the best time to move a Pittosporum tobira, and if it will tolerate less than full sun and still flower? I grew two of these plants from cuttings brought from northern Majorca a few years ago and have them planted in the shrub border but I now need to move one to give more space for growth. Unfortunately the sunniest place is also the most exposed!!
Can you suggest climbing roses suitable for light shade?
Over the past couple of years I have noticed a brownish slippery substance on my 'tar and chips' yard and paths. this has increased 200% this year and is very obvious when the ground is wet. It seems to shrink when the ground dries. In time it turns to moss and looks terrible. I cant brush it off as this removes the chips. Is there any treatment you can suggest?
