I put down a good few potatoes this year for myself and the rest of the family, about 550 metres of drills. It is completely planted with Roosters and they are excellent to eat. They got the blight after 4 months despite intensive spraying with Dithane and I was advised by a gent in Teagasc to cut the stalks at about 5cm to prevent th blight entering the tuber, which I immediately did.I have been lifting them and eating them since about the start of August. Most of them are still in the ground in he original drills. I have sprayed and killed off any growth with Roundup so the drills are clean. How long more can I leave them in the ground as they are? Is this a problem at all in terms of storing them and lifting them as I need them with a view to having them all out by the beginning of January?

You just answered my question about potato drills and spraying for weeds.I also have other drills with carrots, onions, lettuce, radishes, cabbage etc. These also have not yet surfaced and have weeds. Can these drills also be sprayed with Weedol? Thanks.

I planted potatoes on April 1st, about 10 drill, 50 m long, 100 kg of seed. I did not spray the ground before rotavating and drilling and now the drills are getting weeds. The potato plants have not yet surfaced. Can I spray these drills now and not kill the potatoes? With what should I spray them, Roundup?

I have an old yard and a neighbour pointed out a troublesome weed to me about a year ago. He called it Japanese Knotweed. I have tried to kill this with Roundup, by covering the area with stones after spraying with Roundup, by cutting all shoots away, and all to no avail. How can I kill this Japanese Knotweed plant. I think that it is now spreading and appearing around the yard?Tangman
